It’s become an annual tradition for NBA players to participate in the Drew League during the summer, but in 2022 one performance really stood out.

And DeMar DeRozan reminisced during an appearance on the Club 520 Podcast (42:15).

“Just to see how electrified the city was,” he said, discussing LeBron James’ decision to go to a game with him. “I love watching the crowd and seeing the kids’ reactions. … For bro to do that, that was awesome.”

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin noted in 2022 that James and DeRozan teamed up to lead the MMV Cheaters to a dramatic 104-102 victory over Black Pearl Elite during a game in Los Angeles’ famed pro-am league.

James had 42 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and three assists, while DeRozan added 30 points and 14 rebounds. The duo led a fourth-quarter comeback just when it looked like they were going to lose.

It was the King’s first time playing in the Drew League since 2011, while the NBA lockout was still in effect.

James is one of the greatest athletes in sports history and a basketball icon, so his appearance undoubtedly created lifelong memories for many of the fans in attendance. It even created one for DeRozan, which was evident when I heard him talk about it.
