After the kings signed guard Brodric Thomas on Saturday they reached the maximum of 21 players (including three two-way contracts). They must reduce that number to 18 before the start of the regular season

The injury bug has hit Sacramento early, though, as Kevin Huerter, Devin Carter, Trey Lyles and Jordan McLaughlin will miss at least most or all of training camp, which starts Tuesday.

Huerter was cleared last month for on-field workouts, shooting drills and a complete strength training program as he continues to make progress with his shoulder rehabilitation after undergoing surgery in April to repair a torn left labrum. He will be re-evaluated in mid-October before being cleared for full contact court activities.

Carter, the Kings’ 2024 first-round pick, will be sidelined at least until January as he rehabs a shoulder injury. McLaughlin and Lyles, who both suffered offseason injuries, will be reevaluated in two and three weeks, respectively.

The Kings will play preseason against Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, October 9 at Golden 1 Center before traveling to San Francisco to play the Warriors again on October 11 at Chase Center. The Kings then return home to take on the Portland Trail Blazers on October 13 before heading to Salt Lake City to play the Utah Jazz on October 15.

The Kings conclude their five-game preseason schedule with a visit to Southern California to play the Los Angeles Clippers on October 17.
