Kiambu: Driver in collision with truck says the van was new from Mombasa, father and children were on board

A horrific accident occurred in the Ndarugo area last night when a truck collided with a van with four people on board en route to Laikipia County.

Speaking to Paxson TV, the driver of the van revealed that it was new. The family had just picked it up from Mombasa and were on their way home to Wiyumiririe in Laikipia.

The driver who escaped the horrific crash with injuries said a father and children were on board.

“I’m Samuel Njoroge, and I drove this vehicle from Mombasa. The truck hit our vehicle from behind and fell on it. I don’t even know if my brother is still alive there. But the kids are fine. We had I got it vehicle just picked up from Mombasa,” said the shocked driver.

At the time he spoke to the press, he could not confirm whether the children’s father was still alive.

However, his family and friends have since confirmed that he is no more. They mourned his death on social media.

“Wiyumiririe mourns his best and successful businessman (Michael wa Barcelona). He is known by his butchery name. He is a great farmer and a matatu business investor. He was involved in an accident in Ndarugo along Thika Road. May he RIP.”

Driver in Mai-Mahiu crash speaks

In another accident that occurred a fortnight ago, a Kenyan driver whose ill-fated trailer rolled down the slope at Mai Mahiu while shuddering while transporting luxury vehicles, also opened in the final moments before the accident.

Yussuf Hassan said he was on his way from Mombasa to Uganda where he was picking up the new vehicles when he came across the horrific accident that also killed his co-driver.

Hassan said the trouble started when a matatu from Narok direction overlapped on the narrow Mai Mahiu stretch.
