Khaos Reigns — Unleashing Sektor’s New Brutal Brutality – PlayStation.Blog

Design-wise, we wanted to explore the idea of ​​Sektor fighting in a cybersuit in this new timeline rather than being fully robotic, a precursor to the origins of the Lin Kuei Cybernetic Initiative before they reached the level of fully converting humans into cyborgs. For Mortal Kombat 1, the goal was to convey strength and overwhelming firepower through her use of heavy weaponry. Sektor’s strength comes primarily from an exoskeleton that deploys her array of weapons, but also enhances her hand-to-hand combat capabilities using thrusters on her palms and feet. Despite Sektor’s new look, it was still imperative to design abilities that retained the DNA of the classic version of the character, while also expanding her toolbox with new powers that emphasize the technology of her new exoskeleton.

To emphasize these new attacks, we were constantly looking for opportunities to design Brutality moments that would work well with key special moves. Brutalities are prominent moments in gameplay where an opponent is destroyed in a compelling, over-the-top way. The recipe for a good Brutality often lies in a combination of imagination and creating a visceral reaction with comedic elements. For us, Sektor’s Tug of War Brutality ticks all of those boxes. The attack is based on a move she had in Mortal Kombat 3, where a mechanical arm comes out and throws her opponent away. In Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, we wanted to pay homage to that by having the mechanical arm rip the victim’s head off and hold it up like a trophy. This then presented a unique opportunity in terms of how best to destroy the opponent’s head in the most audacious way possible. After thinking about it, our design group decided that she would crush her head as if it had been stuffed into a garbage disposal, with the liquid remains coming out of the flaps in her suit. We think that would provoke a reaction from the players.

In terms of gameplay, Sektor is an accessible space control character with good mid-to-long range potential. Additionally, she has excellent aerial mobility options, mainly due to her use of air thrusters that can propel her in any direction, similar to a double jump. One of Sektor’s new attacks is SkyDrop, where she launches her thrusters into the air and slams over her opponent. For the enhanced version, Sektor crushes her opponent with an uppercut before slashing downward, launching them into the air for a juggle opportunity that potentially results in high combo damage. Additionally, Sektor’s new Blast Shield is a unique special move where she deploys a large shield while simultaneously pinning her feet to the ground. While the shield is deployed, incoming projectiles can no longer push Sektor back, and successfully blocking projectile attacks charges secondary weapons and grants her certain cancel options in special moves.

Sektor has always been a huge fan favorite in the Mortal Kombat universe, and now in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, her arsenal of devastating weapons and abilities gives her an environment full of objectives among the game’s cast of fighters. We’re excited for players to finally get their hands on Sektor and experience all the fun and interesting things she’s capable of.

Sektor will be available as a playable character when the Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion launches digitally on PS5 on September 24.
