Kevin Durant will look for an extension when the time comes

Kevin Durant discussed the possibility of signing a one-year, $59.7 million extension with the Phoenix Suns for the 26-27 season. Durant became eligible to sign the extension on July 12 and would have until October 21 to sign it.

“I have two years left on my contract,” Durant said a day after turning 36 years old. “I’m focusing on being the best I can every day. We’ll figure that out when the time comes.”

The Suns acquired Durant from the Brooklyn Nets before the 2023 trade deadline.

“Everyone talks about Kevin, Kevin loves it here,” Suns team owner Mat Ishbia said Monday. “We love Kevin Durant. We talk to him and his agent, Rich Kleiman, all the time. We don’t really do contract renewals in public, but I’ll tell you this. Kevin loves it. We love Kevin. We plan for Kevin to be here. That doesn’t change anything.”

“We’re excited to have KD here,” James Jones said. “We want him here. We’ll find out. Like Mat said, we don’t really talk about that publicly, but what we do talk about publicly is who really wants to be here and who is a good fit for us. So we love KD, he loves being here. That speaks for itself.”
