Kerala government announces formation of SIT to investigate Kasaragod temple fire accident

KASARAGOD: A fire accident occurred during a Theyyam performance at a temple near Neeleswaram late last night 154 people were injured, eight of them seriously, when fireworks stored in the area exploded. police said Tuesday.

Kasargod District Police Chief D. Shilpa announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the fire accident.

The district administration said the Additional Divisional Magistrate has been directed to separately conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report.

The incident took place at the Anjoottanbalam Veererkavu temple near Neeleswaram in this northernmost district of Kerala, police said.

Nileswaram police have registered a case in connection with the fireworks accident under the Explosive Substance Act and various sections of the BNS.
