Kentucky high school tennis state tournament 2024 champions earn honor

Sacred Heart Tennis is the top high school girls team of the spring, according to The Courier Journal, according to our readers.

The Valkyries defeated Corbin 3-0 to capture their sixth consecutive team state championship and 15e overall. Sacred Heart also received individual state championships from senior Ellie Hammond in singles and seniors Avery Voss and Lilah Jane Shallcross in doubles.

Here’s a look back at the other four nominated teams for the award:

The Rockets won their first regional title since 1998 and reached the semifinals of the state tournament before losing 8-0 to North Laurel, finishing with a 30-12 record. Two juniors earned second-team All-State honors: Lauren Satterly and Lauren Campisano.

The Centurions won the Class 2A, Region Three title and finished second to Lexington Catholic at the Class 2A state meet. The 400-meter relay team of Kylie Moore, Taylor Touche, Ava Moore and Ella Mast won the state title. Kylie Moore, an eighth-grader, also won the high jump.

The Bearcats defeated Eastern 13-4 to capture their third Kentucky Scholastic Lacrosse League title in the last four years, finishing with a 26-2 record and undefeated against Kentucky rivals. Dylan Yonover (Attacker of the Year), Ellie Beam (Midfielder of the Year) and Aspen Caudill (Goalie of the Year) earned the KSLL’s top postseason honors.

The Crimsons won the Class 3A state championship for the fourth year in a row. Manual junior E’Ternity Starks won the high jump and senior Flora Biro was second in the 1,600 meters and third in the 3,200.
