Kalvin Phillips: Ipswich set to sign Man City midfielder on season-long loan

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is expected to join promoted club Ipswich Town on loan for the season.

Phillips has failed to break into City’s starting XI since his £45million move from Leeds two years ago.

He was loaned to West Ham for the second half of last season in a bid to secure a place in the English league for Euro 2024, but a combination of poor form and injuries ruined his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s squad.

The loan agreement does not contain a put option.

Although City manager Pep Guardiola spoke highly of the 28-year-old during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, he was left on the bench for Saturday’s Community Shield win over Manchester United, even without star midfielder Rodri.

A number of clubs, including Fulham, were interested in Phillips, but Ipswich are said to be following suit. The deal is expected to be completed on Friday morning.
