Aden McCarthy, the promising young defender and son of Kaizer Chiefs legend Fabian McCarthy. Recently underwent a trial with Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova. The South African youth international departed for Moldova last month, seeking an opportunity to impress.

While Sheriff Tiraspol showed interest in securing McCarthy on loan until year-end, the deal reportedly collapsed for undisclosed reasons. Consequently, McCarthy is poised to return to South Africa, eager to leave his mark at Kaizer Chiefs under new coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Defensive opportunities at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs announced injuries to key defenders Edmilson Dove and newly signed Bongani Sam, raising concerns ahead of the season’s start. With recent departures and tragic losses, vacancies have emerged in Chiefs’ defence, particularly at left-back, a position where McCarthy could potentially make an impact.

Despite signing his professional contract with Kaizer Chiefs in 2022, the youngster McCarthy is yet to debut for the senior team. His commendable performances in the DStv Diski Challenge earned him promotion to the senior squad, positioning him favorably to capitalize on current team needs and impress Coach Nabi.

Currently in Turkey for pre-season training, Kaizer Chiefs are focusing on team development and tactical refinement under Coach Nasreddine Nabi’s guidance. The inclusion of several youth prospects in their training squad underscores the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent.

The team is set to return to South Africa on July 24, 2024, with uncertainties surrounding McCarthy’s immediate plans. Whether he will rejoin the team in Turkey or return directly to Johannesburg. The club’s pre-season culminates in a highly anticipated clash against Young Africans in the Toyota Cup at Free State Stadium on July 28th.

Kaizer Chiefs finalise deal with TS Galaxy for Fiacre Ntwari

In other Kaizer Chiefs news, the club has secured the services of Rwandan goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy. Aged 24, Ntwari impressed since his arrival from Rwandan giants APR FC, particularly noted for his standout performance against Benin during the AFCON qualifiers.

Despite competition, Ntwari made a memorable debut for TS Galaxy against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup, saving two penalties and helping Galaxy advance to the quarter-finals. His consistent performance throughout the season, featuring in 24 matches with nine clean sheets, solidified his role as the club’s top goalkeeper.

Agreement and expectations

Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy have finalised Ntwari’s transfer, with the Rwandan shot-stopper signing a three-year contract, awaiting visa approval to join Chiefs in Turkey. His addition underscores Chiefs’ commitment to bolstering their squad for the upcoming season.
