Jurrien Timber praised for spirited performance in North London Derby

Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the North London derby yesterday.

Gabriel Magalhaes’ second-half goal secured the Gunners an important away win and will undoubtedly have given them a huge confidence boost.

Arsenal have missed out on the title for the past two seasons and this time they will be looking to go all the way.

The win over Tottenham certainly gives them the confidence to start a winning run now.

Despite the many injuries, they still managed to achieve an important victory at a difficult location against their great rivals.

Jurrien Timber “excellent” for Arsenal against Spurs

Mikel Arteta will be very pleased with the performance of his players and in particular Jurrien Timber showed a great performance.

The Dutch defender left for Arsenal in the summer of 2023 for a fee of around £38 million. Today he was fielded in the starting XI against Tottenham at left back.

The Dutchman was excellent at reading the game and was proactive with his tackling, keeping the Spurs wingers calm throughout the game and his aggressive display was praised by Matt Upson.

“You could give any defender man of the match,” he told BBC Sport.

“Gabriel might win with his goal, but William Saliba was a rock at the back. Jurrien Timber at left back looks excellent, he takes tackles and you have to compliment the goalkeeper, David Raya.”

Timber will be looking to cement the left-back position in the coming weeks and judging by his performance earlier today, he is certainly good enough to start every week for a club like Arsenal.
