Julian Brown signs with the Clippers

Nanaimo, BC (July 17, 2024) — Born in 2006, defenseman Julian Brown (Montclair, NJ) is the newest addition to the Nanaimo Clippers’ blue line, the team announced today.

Brown, 18, signed with the team after playing his second full season of junior hockey with the Philadelphia Rebels of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He was selected ninth overall in last year’s NAHL draft.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound defenseman played 51 games for the Rebels, scoring nine points and drawing 98 penalty minutes.

In 2022–23, Brown began his junior career as a 16-year-old with the Boston Jr. Bruins of the NCDC after being selected 9th overall by the team in that league’s draft. He also played 3 games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL, of which he was a 2022 third-round draft pick.

“With Julian, we’re adding a big, strong defender who’s also a really good skater,” Clippers general manager and head coach Colin Birkas said. “He can play hard, he can play tough minutes, but he’s also got a lot of skill that we’re going to help bring out. There are really good reasons why he was a high USHL draft pick and played games in Dubuque.”

Before entering junior, Brown played on three consecutive championship teams at the 13U, 14U and 15U levels with the North Jersey Avalanche and played two years of high school hockey for Delbarton School in Morristown, NJ.
