Jules Kounde agrees with Rodri on player strikes

When Man City ace Rodri claimed that the time for players to go on strike was approaching due to the number of games played, the football world sat up and took notice. Now Jules Kounde has thrown his weight behind the argument.

Barcelona’s star has played a key role in his team’s brilliant start to the season under Hansi Flick, with none of the club’s first-team stars suffering any ill effects from their performances for their country over the summer.

Kounde supports Rodri regarding player strikes

Kounde was part of the French team that was eliminated from the European Championship by eventual winners Spain.

It is clear that he too is not happy with the way UEFA and FIFA are beating up their players week in, week out, without any real rest in the summer, as more and more tournaments are organised.

This means that the extended Club World Cup season will end just three weeks before the start of the 2024/25 season – an untenable situation.

“Every year we have more games and less rest,” Kounde was quoted as saying by CaughtOffside columnist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X.

“We players have been saying this for 3-4 years, but no one pays attention to us. There comes a time when we have to strike to make ourselves heard, as Rodri said.”

Now that a previously taboo topic is being routinely discussed by senior players, authorities must pay attention.

That the world’s best players are even seriously considering quitting their club or country to make their position known is a real concern for the authorities.

Whether they continue with their own plans or listen to the players instead, we will see in the coming months. But it is clear that they do not want to play on the edge at the moment.
