José Mourinho booked for bizarre laptop VAR protest in Fenerbahce match | Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce manager José Mourinho was shown a yellow card by the referee on Sunday after protesting a VAR decision to disallow a goal by placing a laptop in front of a TV camera and displaying a photo in a attempt to show that the offside decision was incorrect.

The Portuguese former manager of Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid told reporters he believed his striker Edin Dzeko was onside, and showed a sketch of the build-up to the attack to prove his point.

“For us it is a good goal,” said Mourinho after the 2-0 win over Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig. “I like a good VAR… I just want a VAR that helps the referee make the right decisions.”

Fenerbahce president Ali Koc had accused Turkish Super Lig’s video assistant referees of bias against his club last April, with the league deciding to hire foreign VARs for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

Last season’s number two, Fenerbahce, is second in the table with 16 points from seven games, three points behind champion Galatasaray. Mourinho’s team will visit FC Twente in the Europa League on Thursday.
