Jonathan Kuminga seeking maximum extension for Warriors

On the latest episode of Yahoo Sports’ No Cap Room podcast, Jake Fischer reported on the Golden State Warriors’ plans for Lauri Markkanen on the trade market. With their young players still in the fold, the Warriors are expected to focus on potentially extending Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.

A rookie scale extension for Kuminga may not come cheap for Golden State. Fischer reported that Kuminga is seeking a max extension. That would see the 6-foot-8 forward sign for just over a projected $224 million over five years.

So far, Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Scottie Barnes and Franz Wagner have all been awarded max rookie scale extensions from the 2021 NBA Draft class.

Kuminga averaged career highs across the board last season, posting 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 26.3 minutes per game. Kuminga also started in 46 of the 74 games he played in, while shooting 53% from the field and 75% at the free throw line.
