Johnny Depp pays tribute to Pirates of the Caribbean co-star killed by shark

pirates of the caribbean Actor Johnny Depp has paid tribute to his co-actor Tamayo Perry after it was revealed he was killed in a shark attack.

Perry, 49, was surfing at Mālaekahana Beach on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii last month when he was attacked by a shark.

Emergency services pulled Perry from the water and jet-skied him back to shore. The actor, surfer and lifeguard was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

A month after the tragedy, Depp, who played Captain Jack Sparrow in the series, paid tribute to Perry’s family via social media.

Depp shared a black-and-white photo of Perry on his Instagram Stories yesterday (July 28), sending his “love” to his former co-star’s family.

“Although it has been a number of years now, I still remember Tamayo well,” he wrote.

“A lovely man, with a big heart and zest for life… Emilia, I send you all my love and strength. You are in my thoughts. With love, Johnny.”

Depp also included a link to a GoFundMe set up in Perry’s memory, with the aim of raising money to support his legacy. At the time of writing, approximately $118,655 (£92,247) had been raised of a $200,000 (£155,500) goal.

In an update on the page, organizers explained that the GoFundMe would be used to help Perry’s widow Emila “find her way” in life without her husband.

“The generosity shown is deeply moving. These funds will be used to support Emilia as she navigates the future without Tamayo, her husband, best friend and caregiver,” the post read.

“We will continue to share Tamayo’s message of love, faith in Jesus Christ and living life to the fullest with those you care about.”

Perry and Depp collaborated on the 2011 film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides alongside Penélope Cruz and Ian McShane, in which he played the role of an adventurous pirate.

He has also played small roles in television and film projects, such as in 2003 Charlie’s Angels 2 and episodes of Hawaii Five-O.

In addition to his acting, Perry was an established surfer, having made a name for himself as someone who could ride the infamous Pipeline wave at Ehukai Beach on Oahu.

Perry previously spoke in an interview about his experience auditioning for the film, saying that he and four others were selected from a pool of nearly 7,000 applicants in 2010.

“I had to be pretty mean to get noticed,” he said of the process. “There were some hernias.”
