John Carpenter’s Escape From New York Gets Limited Steelbook Edition

John Carpenter’s influential action film Escape From New York is one of the most important films of the ’80s, inspiring not only future filmmakers, but also video games like Metal Gear and the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Neuromancer. The iconic film is soon getting a slick new Steelbook edition with brand new cover art, and you can pre-order it now on Amazon for $45.

The new edition adds a great-looking Steelbook sleeve to the already impressive 2022 Escape from New York Collector’s Edition 4K Blu-ray. The 4K Steelbook edition includes a host of commentary tracks, including one from Carpenter and Russell, and a bunch of other behind-the-scenes looks at the film’s creation and special effects. There are also deleted scenes and photo galleries – basically everything you could ever want to see from Escape from New York.

The new Escape from New York 4K Steelbook Edition releases on November 5th. Pre-orders are available on Amazon for $45, while Gruv is offering it for $35, so it’s likely Amazon will drop the price to match it before release. Amazon is also offering a price match guarantee on pre-orders. If the price changes after you pre-order, Amazon will only charge you the lower amount, and you won’t be billed until your order ships.

If the new 4K Steelbook Edition is too expensive, you can go for the cheaper option and purchase the original Escape from New York Collector’s Edition from Amazon. It contains almost the same content but is cheaper: $26.
