Joe Rogan and Jorge Masvidal Agree on Major UFC Rule Change Over Universal Ban

Joe Rogan and Jorge Masvidal both want a universally banned measure within the UFC to be changed. That would be a game-changer.

Masvidal enjoyed a legendary ten-year career under the UFC banner, including winning the first BMF title against Nate Diaz.

He also boasts the fastest knockout in UFC history, after stopping Ben Askren with a flying knee in just five seconds at UFC 239.

And if rabbit punches (punches to the back of the head) had been allowed when Masvidal was still in the UFC, he could have had an even more successful career.

Rabbit punching is generally banned in MMA, but Rogan believes the move should be legalized and Masvidal agrees.

The UFC color commentator explained on his podcast: “I don’t even know if we should stop hitting people in the back of the head. It doesn’t make sense because a lot of knockouts, like high kicks, go around the back of your shoulder and hit your head. They’re legal, the person gets knocked out.”

To which Masvidal, who has a rematch against Diaz in a boxing match this weekend, responded: “There are a lot of times when a guy is half knocked out.

“Perfect example Dustin Poirier versus Conor (McGregor), he hit him three times hard on the back of the head and then he went limp.

“What the f**k? Is it now the referee’s decision who gets to hit the back of the head and who doesn’t?”

Rogan also referenced Ciryl Gane’s win over Junor dos Santos, in which he landed a hard blow to the Brazilian’s back of the head.

“Like Ciryl Gane and Junior dos Santos, he hit him with an elbow on the back of the head. It should be legal, I don’t understand why it’s not legal,” he added.

“People say you’re more vulnerable there, so don’t fucking get hit there.

“Eddie Bravo talked about this all the time, in the old MMA days, when a guy would sit on someone’s back, he would put his elbows on his head, on the back of his head.

“If you have his back and his head is there, all those side punches are not realistic.”
