Jim Harbaugh Compared to Legendary Head Coach by NFL Analyst

Nearly all of the talk surrounding the Los Angeles Chargers ahead of the 2024 NFL season will center on new head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Most NFL fans, even those who aren’t Chargers fans, see Harbaugh as a positive change for the team after the Brandon Staley era. Most in the NFL media see it as a good move as well.

On the MMQB podcast, Albert Breer and Conor Orr discussed the team’s prospects as training camp gets underway. Breer made an interesting statement during the conversation, comparing Harbaugh to Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Parcells.

Jim Harbaugh the modern Bill Parcells?

“I’ve made the comparison before. I think he’s a modern-day Bill Parcells, in an NFL context. That’s who he is as a coach,” Breer told Orr.

That’s a great comparison and a huge compliment to the incoming Harbaugh. Like Parcells, Harbaugh has shown improvement everywhere he’s coached and has never really struggled, his teams always compete.

Parcells coached the New York Giants, New England Patriots, New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys, and regularly had a team in the game. He won two Super Bowls with the Giants and took the Patriots to another. Harbaugh is seen as a similar type of coach.

When a team hired Parcells, it was to clean up the mess, install a proven system and get the most out of its players. Harbaugh, who is a bit of a throwback coach, is expected to do the same.
