Jeff Jarrett Talks WCW on Netflix

WCW was once the only wrestling promotion that could beat the WWE. During the Monday Night Wars, WCW did quite well. However, a series of poor management decisions resulted in the promotion failing miserably.

Jeff Jarrett Talks the Possibility of WWE Reviving WCW on Netflix

VICE TV has a docuseries called ‘Who Killed WCW?’. There were a lot of details revealed during the series that casual fans might not know.

Today, all of WCW’s intellectual properties belong to WWE. There is a possibility that WCW will be revived by WWE on Netflix in 2025. Legendary professional wrestler and wrestling promoter Jeff Jarrett shared his thoughts on this in his podcast.

According to him, it could. “It could,” Jarrett said. “(But) the reality is we’re 23 years removed from when the brand was on television. The NWO still sells a lot of merchandise, but WCW, as far as I know, hasn’t sold a lot.

A few retro shirts here and there or something. I just don’t see a huge value in it. But that being said, you own the IP, you own the library, and you have the ability to have multiple connective tissues…

So could it work with a focused effort? I think you could knock it out of the park.” Of course, there are a few problems. When ECW was purchased by WWE in 2001, ECW wrestlers began working for WWE. Shortly after the promotion was purchased, WWE had its version of ECW.

They had a very successful PPV event called One Night Stand that took place in 2006. They only did it once though. Former ECW wrestlers competed in that event. The problem is that most of the wrestlers from the WCW Monday Night Wars era are gone.

They’re either not active or they just don’t work for WWE. Jeff Jarrett is one of the few wrestlers still active from that era in professional wrestling, and he doesn’t work for WWE. WCW closed almost 2 decades ago, which is a long time.

However, Jeff believes that AEW offers the hardcore fans all the alternative they need, and AEW is very similar to WCW. “There are people who, no matter how good Coca Cola tastes, still want to drink Pepsi. No matter what, people want alternative brands,” Jeff said.
