Jeff Hardy recalls a phone call with WWE that moved him to tears

Jeff Hardy ended his third WWE run in late 2021 after making a sour return in 2017 when he walked out of a match during a live event and was released after refusing to enter rehab. His brother, Matt Hardy, claimed at the time that a drug relapse did not cause Jeff to walk out during the match.

WWE attempted to bring Jeff back to the company months after the incident, offering to induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame to calm things down. Hardy turned down the offer, waited until his 90-day non-compete clause expired, and joined his brother in AEW.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Hardy was asked if he feels like he’s headed toward a Hardy Boyz induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. He recalled when WWE wanted to induct him a few years ago and why he felt it would only be right to go with his brother.

Hardy said, “Definitely, man, and when I denied it the first time, it just didn’t feel right, and going out there without Matt. I mean, I cried after that phone call. I just thought about all the really cool moments that I’ve given the pro wrestling world. I’m so proud of it, but it didn’t feel right at all. So I just wanted to wait. If I was going to do this, I would definitely do it with Matt. You know, it would be a Hardy Boyz thing. I just want one ring. I don’t want two rings.”
