India pacer Jasprit Bumrah spoke about his favourite captain. He also praised Rohit Sharma for the support and guidance he got in the early stages of his career, while he lauded Virat Kohli for his unmitigated leadership.

At an event, Jasprit Bumrah was asked to name his favourite captain. Since he has played under three of the best captains till date in MS Dhoni, namely Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, people were very curious to know his answer.

Surprisingly, Jasprit Bumrah chose himself as his favourite captain. Interestingly, Bumrah has captained India in one Test and a handful of ODIs.

“My favorite captain is me, because I’ve been captain for a few games. Of course there are great captains, but I’ll say my name. I’m my favorite captain, Bumrah told The Indian Express.

On a more serious note, he praised Rohit Sharma for his leadership qualities and highlighted his role in the home Test series against England, where India were forced to field a number of newcomers.

“In the recent England series, when the youngsters came, Rohit created a very comfortable atmosphere. He goes the extra mile; he takes them along; he talks to them about the match; he tries to push them to take responsibility because the youngsters have to think that everyone is equally important; there is no senior or junior,” said Bumrah.

Bumrah praised Rohit as a captain of a bowler and spoke about how he helped him in his early years in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

A captain has to have empathy for bowlers and Rohit Sharma is one of the few captains who has empathy for bowlers. I played in the IPL too and I even went to Rohit and said, ‘You field, I’m going to bowl this ball. You field, and I trust you in what you think is right. You field’“, revealed Bumrah.

Bumrah also reserved huge praise for Virat Kohli under whom the Indian team achieved great heights in Test cricket. Bumrah praised Kohli for the fierce energy and passion he brings to the team.

“said Bumrah.Virat is energy driven. He is quite passionate and wears his heart on his sleeve. He pushed us in terms of fitness. He changed the narrative that way. Even though Virat is not the captain, he is still the leader.”
