Jannik Sinner shocks everyone with his words

Jannik Sinner entered Shanghai just after losing the final of the Beijing tournament to his great rival Carlos Alcarazin one of the most spectacular competitions of the year. This rivalry is exciting for fans and professionals alike, who see the same stigmas of the Big 3 in these two young champions.

The Italian star can be really satisfied with his season, in which he has dedicated himself as a champion of the highest level. The 23-year-old from San Candido has only lost six matches in all of 2024, winning the Australian Open and the US openas well as winning the Masters 1000 in Miami and Cincinnati.

The incredible level that Jannik offers this year is reflected in the large margin that separates him from his opponents in the ATP rankings. The two-time Grand Slam champion – who will almost certainly finish at the top of the ATP rankings in 2024 – wants to win more titles in the next month and a half.

Sinner confided that his main goal was the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, where he surrendered to 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the final last year. Unlike in recent years, the world number 1 has decided to skip the ATP 500 in Vienna to save energy for the highlights of his schedule.

A very high level

Sinner has been playing at a very high level in recent months, despite having to undergo a long trial in connection with the doping case that concerned him. ITIA declared him innocent before the start of the US Open, but WADA recently decided to appeal against the acquittal.

His debut in Shanghai against Taro Daniel will take place in a few hours, but Jannik Sinner is ready and loaded for the next tournament. The Italian does not seem to be affected by the Wada case and has even shown his best tennis at some points in Beijing. In the final he surrendered to his rival friend Carlos Alcaraz and the two arrived in Shanghai together, starting on the same plane with their respective teams. This emphasizes a special relationship that we rarely see on tennis courts.

Jannik spoke about this friendship and rivalry at the pre-tournament press conference in Shanghai, making the following statements: “As people off the field, we are quite similar in character and so it is very easy for us. We are different on the field, but it is our nature. Outside the court I listen to him, he is very close to the people close to him and that includes me.

We live in a normal way and on the field of course we try to fight with each other, it was a great fight, overall as always. He pushes me to do betterthis is definitely something good, the season is coming to an end and at the end I will train to improve and try to beat him. But off the field we are quite similar.”

Analyzing the final in Beijing, Sinner then explained: “The loss in the tiebreak? Are there things that can happen, you can win if losing in the third tiebreak, sometimes I win it sometimes. I had a chance in the third set, but he was able to win in the first and I won that. In the second set I broke some balls at 4 against 3 and sometimes also at 5 against 4, in the decisive tiebreak I was ahead. He made some great shots and I think it was a really great match.”

Sinner has done nothing wrong

Mats Wilanderon the Eurosport microphones, Jannik defended Sinner in the Clostebol case. The former Swedish tennis player believes that the Italian star is innocent and that WADA’s appeal only highlights the confusion that can sometimes arise from the existence of different bodies governing this important sector.

Wilander first praised the world number one for the way he handled things in the US, where he won both the Cincinnati Masters 1000 and the US Open. “I think he handled this situation in the best possible way. It’s amazing that he won the US Open in these circumstances. He is incredibly mature. My opinion on the whole issue is that people are not perfect. We are imperfect,” Wilander explains.

“I think Sinner is completely innocent. He didn’t do anything wrong. There should be better rules and guidelines and fewer people involved. But perfection does not exist. Players must commit, along with their teams, to testing every supplement, every vitamin. It would be very serious if the measure were to be suspended. Because I think Sinner has, in a way, admitted that there was a mistake in his team. He doesn’t say he made a mistake, but it happened.”
