Jannik Sinner doping case has sparked many reactions

The tennis world is shocked by the news of Jannik Sinnerdoping case of the past two days. The world number 1 has been cleared and acquitted of all charges by ITIA, but players, insiders and fans continue to talk about it. The 2024 Australian Open champion – who received the news of his positive status in April after the Miami Masters 1000 – proved that the contamination was entirely accidental and that there was no intent or negligence on his part.

The ITIA believed this version of events, the provisional suspension was immediately lifted and Jannik was able to play regularly again in these months. The 23-year-old from San Candido has been the protagonist of a fantastic season so far, in which he has won one Major and two Masters 1000.

Sinner has just the Cincinnati Masters 1000 and applies to become the best candidate for the US Open 2024which starts on Monday in New York. Although he plays very well on hardcourt, the US Open is the Grand Slam that the Italian has had the most trouble with so far.

Jannik reached the round of 16 twice (in 2021 and 2023) and the quarter-finals in 2022, when he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in one of the best matches in the history of the tournament. Jannik Sinner must be good at finding the right calm and not worrying about what is happening around him. The Italian ace is one of the big favorites to win the US Open, where he hopes to win the second Grand Slam of his young career.

The Italian ace is going through a difficult period

In conversation with Eurosport, ATP legend and top analyst Mats Wilander opened about Sinner’s doping case: “The process is clearly horriblebecause if you can test something and get a result that is so small, I mean, a billionth of a gram, then there is literally nothing.

But if you can test that well, you must be that good when it comes to the process, because not only would you ruin a player’s career, you could also ruin the country in terms of developing tennis players. And Italy is doing a great job. That’s why we’re lucky that Jannik was able to keep playing.

The professionalism is not good as far as the doping organizations are concerned. They have to do it right. And it is unfair. And of course it has nothing to do with Jannik Sinner, but it is unfair to all the other players who have been caught and then acquitted. That it was a result of a positive test, but they never did anything, and that has been proven in so many cases. So you understand that some players come out and say something like: ‘yeah, sure, sure, he didn’t do it, or something like that’, but I think we know that Jannik Sinner is one of the most honest tennis players we have ever seen.”

The case of the sinner is still being debated

Different players such as Nick Kyrgios, Denis Shapovalov And Lucas Pouille have attacked Sinner and the anti-doping system for allegedly favoring the Italian star.

In an interview with ESPN, Darren Cahill Jannik defended: “I don’t think he was treated differently. There is no doubt that it is easier for the top people because they can afford to build a legal team to help them find solutions and justice, something that the world number 500 may not be able to do.”

FITP President Angelo Binaghi also discussed Sinner’s case: “The criticism comes from the most idiotic and frustrated peoplewho had more technical resources at their disposal than Sinner to become number one in the world and still failed miserably. It is normal for them to make venomous remarks.”

Many fans and insiders wonder why this case has been kept secret for so many months. The world number 1 actively cooperated with ITIA and immediately understood where the contamination came from, an important aspect for solving this bad affair. Former Australian ace John Molenman defended the Italian star: “Before we draw conclusions: Jannik Sinner had less than a billionth of a gram in his body. I believe him 100% .. maybe we should change the threshold for contamination. And finally, why all the fuss about this if we allow athletes in all sports, including tennis, to abuse TUEs?”

He also added: “Also, the ITIA handled this 1000x better than the butcher job with Simona. Jannik is about as good a person as there is on tour. At least read the report before you pass judgment.” WADA and NADO can appeal the acquittal within 30 days.
