Jamie Gittens: Who is Borussia Dortmund and England’s winger?

First there was Jadon Sancho, then there was Jude Bellingham. Will Jamie Gittens be Borussia Dortmund’s next England star?

The 20-year-old England youth international is suddenly in the form of his life.

Dortmund struggled in their Champions League opener against Club Brugge on Wednesday until he came on in the 68th minute.

Gittens scored the first two goals for Dortmund. His opening goal may have been a lucky deflection, but his second was a brilliant effort after he had stepped over the line a couple of times before cutting to his right.

His performance saw Dortmund win 3-0, with Gittens being named player of the match.

He could even have scored a hat-trick if Serhou Guirassy had not taken a penalty in the closing stages.

“Electricity, his speed, the movement of his hips, as a defender it’s your worst nightmare,” former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock told the BBC Champions League Match of the Day.

“You can’t get near him, his feet are so fast.”

The winger’s immediate and big impact from the bench is nothing new to Dortmund fans, as he also scored two late goals in the 2-0 win over Frankfurt in August.

But his performances in the Champions League have attracted worldwide attention.
