Jackson Ward 2 special election moves to runoff

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson’s Ward 2 residents will have to return to the polls to vote in a runoff election to select a candidate in order to fill an empty City Council seat.

According to the unofficial results, Montyne (Tina) Clay received 1,139 votes and Marcus Cheatham received 550 votes. The two candidates will move on to the special runoff election, which will be held on October 22.

Sentencing continued for former Jackson councilwoman

The other candidates who were on the ballot on Tuesday were Catherine Robinson, Celestial M. Gordon-Griffin, Brian Mozee and Cheryl Matory.

Former Councilwoman Angelique Lee resigned in August before she was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery in federal court.
