I’ve never felt so alone

The golf world was shocked by today’s news that Ally Ewing has retired at just 31 years old. The popular golfer confirmed her decision on social media, surprising everyone who followed her career and women’s golf. Ewing reflected on the early days of her career and shared her happiness about achieving the dreams that every young girl who plays golf strives for.

At 31, she had many successes and memorable moments, but representing her country on a big stage was her greatest pride. Ewing acknowledged that playing in the Solheim Cup under the American flag was the greatest honor of her career. She also expressed her gratitude to the LPGA for their support and for opening the doors to her success. The 31-year-old golfer admitted that the decision was not easy, but after careful consideration, she realized that it was probably the best choice for her.

“It is with a heavy but grateful heart that I would like to announce that I will be retiring from professional golf at the end of this year,” she said in a video.

“When I envisioned my career, I never would have dreamed that this girl from a small town in Mississippi could have the career that God has blessed me with.”

Ally Ewing: I’ve never felt so alone and missing out

Being part of the golf scene and competing with the greats of the sport has always been her dream. However, the experienced golfer admitted that playing on such a big stage comes with various pressures and challenges, and it seems that she has experienced a certain burnout in recent years. The American admitted that she felt lonely at times, and reflected on her career and some of the moments she missed. Taking this decision was not easy for her; she was aware of the pros and cons, but she is happy that she fulfilled her dream.

“I’ve seen so much of the world and met so many incredible people,” Ewing said, quoted by Golf Week.

“But I have also never felt so alone and missed out on things that were so close to my heart.

I have cried many tears, but I will never take for granted what this game has done for me. I have fulfilled a dream that many strive for.”

Growing up playing golf is interesting. You have to prioritize your career and success on the big stage, often at the expense of your private life and your life outside of golf. The American admitted that she tried to keep everything in balance, because she wanted to make as much progress as possible in the sport. She had to miss out on a lot of things to develop in the right direction.

“Although I’ve always felt like I could balance golf and my life,” said Ewing“Every decision I’ve made since I was young has always been based on how it would affect golf.”

Born McDonald in Tupelo, Mississippi, this popular golfer showed tremendous talent at a young age, indicating that she could write a remarkable story in the golf world. Ewing won several tournaments, including the Mississippi State Amateur twice. The most important moment of her career came eight years ago when she earned her LPGA card, but she was shocked to find out that she had type 1 diabetes.

McDonald married her husband Charlie four years ago and began using her married name, Ewing. Charlie is the head coach of the Mississippi State women’s golf team. She often takes the opportunity to share photos with him on social media, showing the love they share. It seems like the two have a great relationship full of love, respect, and understanding.

In terms of professional victories, she won the LPGA Drive On Championship in 2020 and the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play the following year. A year later, at age 29, she triumphed at the Kroger Queen City Championship.

Many believe that Ally could have had an even bigger career, but her achievements so far are truly commendable. She has made a huge impact wherever she has competed, and as she has said, her proudest moment was competing in the Solheim Cup. It is unclear whether she plans to return to the world of golf in a different capacity. For now, it seems that her priority is to focus on herself, take a break, and carefully consider her next steps in her career.
