It turns out that Arena Breakout Infinite is actually a pay-to-win game

Arena Breakout Infinite Early Access launched for PC on August 13th, with hundreds of players flooding the servers. But many players quickly realized that the game features pervasive pay-to-win elements, and they’re not happy.

Immediately after Arena Breakout Infinite launched, multiple posts about the game’s pay-to-win system flooded Reddit. Frustrated players complained that the game is pay-to-win, while the developer did not reveal this information up front.

“I’m just shocked at the amount of people defending this… Games have just brainwashed people. This wouldn’t have happened 5 or 10 years ago,” reads one of the top posts on the game’s subreddit.

Other players delved into the details behind Arena Breakout Infinite’s pay-to-win mechanics. Many argue that the free loot you get for just playing isn’t good enough, which could be a deliberate decision to encourage you to spend money. “The problem is STILL that you’re not buying Koens (in-game, purchasable currency), it’s that loot is worthless to encourage you to buy Koens. If loot had a fair value like (in) Escape from Tarkov and I could reliably run from zero to hero pistol and be fine (…) but Tencent decided to make it difficult here by making everything worthless,” one player wrote.

One player proved his point by converting Koens to US dollars. Their calculations showed that Thermal Images, an advanced scope, costs $24.44. Other items like a helmet or a piece of body armor cost $6.60 and $4.03 each. Furthermore, it seems that you can still lose these items in-game. “Imagine paying money for non-permanent pixels,” another player wrote.

It is still questionable whether Arena Breakout Infinite will attract many players in the long run. However, given the current community sentiment, it seems unlikely.
