Israel names soldiers killed in Hezbollah drone strike – including 23 killed in Gaza school strike | World news

Israel has named the four soldiers killed in a Hezbollah drone strike on a military base – as at least 23 people were killed in an attack on a central school in Gaza.

Local hospitals said the school in Nuseirat was hosting people displaced by the war when the school was hit on Sunday evening.

Women and children are said to have been among the dead after the strike.

Israel has not commented, but regularly accuses Hamas operatives of hiding in school buildings – claims the group denies.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military has named four soldiers killed in Sunday’s drone strike on a military base in the city of Binyamina.

The canteen reportedly hit the canteen when it was full for dinner and 61 people were injured, according to the ambulance service.

The Israeli military said the slain soldiers were all 19 years old.

It named them Sergeant Omri Tamari, Sergeant Yosef Hieb, Sergeant Yoav Agmon and Sergeant Alon Amitay.

Hezbollah – designated a terror group by the US and Britain, among others – said it was in retaliation for an Israeli attack that killed 22 people in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Thursday.

It claimed Sunday’s attack was designed to evade air defenses and involved “squadrons” of drones.

The attack came on the same day the US said it would send a new air defense system to Israel, as well as the troops to operate it.

Israel is trying to critically weaken Hezbollah so that tens of thousands of its citizens threatened by rocket attacks can return to homes near the border.

The offensive has killed a number of key commanders, including the group’s leader, but many civilians have been killed and lost their homes since the airstrikes and limited ground invasion began.

Israeli tanks ram into UN base

There is also an ongoing row over UN peacekeepers Lebanon after five were injured by Israeli attacks on their positions in recent days.

The UN said there was a “further blatant violation of international law” on Sunday when Israeli tanks forcibly entered the gates of a position, destroying the main gate and firing smoke rounds.

The Israeli military said a tank trying to evacuate wounded soldiers was reversed into a UN post while under fire and a smokescreen was used to provide cover.

It says it is trying to maintain constant contact with the UN peacekeeping force in the region, known as UNIFIL.

In a video on Sunday, the Israeli Prime Minister said Benjamin Netanyahu said he regretted the incidents but accused peacekeepers of “providing a human shield” for Hezbollah urged them to evacuate.

On Monday, Spain’s leader, Pedro Sanchez, urged EU members to suspend a free trade deal with Israel over its actions in Gaza and Lebanon.

Spain and Ireland have been in talks with other countries about revising the agreement on the grounds that Israel is violating the human rights clause.

Meanwhile, Israel still needs to take revenge Iran for his rocket attack earlier this month.

Fears remain that this could attack the country’s oil facilities and further inflame the already critical situation in the region.
