Is there still a chance that Caitlin Clark will compete in the Olympics?

Caitlin Clark and the Olympics still being discussed due to injury

A huge controversy erupted among sports fans across the country when star player Caitlin Clark was left off the US women’s basketball team for the Olympics.

Lately, however, there has been a slight chance that Clark is actually in Paris.

Veteran player Diana Taurasi has been struggling with an injury to her lower left leg recently. It was thought that if this was enough to keep the 42-year-old from competing at the Olympics, Clark would be named to the team in her place.

According to sportsbusinessjournal.com, Clark was named a first reserve for the U.S. team, meaning she would be named if Taurasi or another player on the roster were unable to play in Paris due to injury.

Taurasi returned to action Sunday after missing three games, playing 25 minutes for the Phoenix Mercury in a loss to the Connecticut Sun.

It looks like Taurasi could fill her place in the Paris squad, but if her injury recurs or another player suffers an unfortunate injury, Clark could still play in the Olympics.

Injury forces USWNT player off Olympic roster

The US women’s national soccer team will be without one of its leading goalscorers in Paris.

Catarina Macario, a 24-year-old striker who plays professionally in England for Chelsea, was forced to withdraw from the Olympics due to a persistent knee injury after initially being named to the 18-team U.S. roster.

Macario, who has scored nine goals in 18 international matches, was attempting to compete at the Olympics after missing last year’s World Cup, initially suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in June 2022.

The US called up forward Lynn Williams to take Macario’s place.

The one Olympic event that will take place thousands of miles from Paris

One of the first events of the Paris Olympics is surfing, but the event takes place nowhere near the host city.

It is not unusual for events to take place quite a distance from the epicentre of the host city, but the surfing competition is unique in that it takes place in Tahiti, which is approximately 15,600 kilometres from Paris.

According to the Associated Press news agency, this is the furthest distance an event has ever traveled from the host city.

Tahiti is located in French Polynesia and the event is held there because of the quality of the waves that are likely to be suitable for the competition.

Surfing made its debut as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo Games. The competition at the Paris Olympics will take place from July 27 to August 5.
