Year after year the opening ceremony for Lol Worlds is something to behold. With artists like Imagine Dragons, Zedd, Lil Nas X, The Glitch Mob, and NewJeans having performed anthems for the esports tournament in the past, it’s always fun to see who’s next.

Rampant speculation that Linkin Park would be the artist for the Worlds 2024 anthem began to gain momentum in early September 2024, after Riot Games revealed the calendar for this year’s Worlds. Combined with some social media posts from the @loleports Twitter/X account, the signs point to the Linkin Park rumor being true.

The rumor can be traced back to September 5, when Linkin Park announced their comeback with new members, a new album, single, and world tour, and the @lolesports account posted a crown emoji in response to a live performance by the band that same day. Speculation began among those who saw the post, but only really picked up a few days later.

The tracklist for Linkin Park’s new album, From scratchfeatures a track titled “Heavy is the Crown”, which is track four on the upcoming release. The title thematically fits a Lol world champion is crowned, but there is more evidence.

The Worlds 2024 calendar has September 24 marked as the date for the reveal of this year’s anthem. Not so coincidentally, Linkin Park will also be playing The O2 Arena in London on that day, the exact same venue for the Worlds 2024 opening ceremony and final.

It’s entirely possible that Linkin Park, along with Riot Games, will make the news official on September 24th, when the band is at The O2 for their own world tour, confirming that they’ll be back just over a month later for the opening ceremony on November 2nd.
