Ireland v England: Amy Hunter says hosts confident heading into ODI series

Hunter made headlines in world cricket in October 2021, on her 16th birthday, during a match against Zimbabwe in Harare when she became the youngest player – male or female – to score a one-day international century.

“It’s been quite a journey. Three years ago feels like an eternity ago,” said the Belfast teenager.

“I have just finished my A-levels and I am very happy with how they went. I am moving to Dublin to continue my studies at UCD (University College Dublin) where I will be studying Health and Performance Sciences.”

But before that happens, there is the not-so-insignificant matter of the matches against a touring England.

Regular captain Laura Delany is not yet available due to the injury she sustained during the Sri Lanka series, meaning Gaby Lewis will captain the home side.

“The team is devastated about Laura, but in Gaby we have a great captain to replace her,” Hunter added.

“There’s a great mix of experience and youth with Aimee Maguire and Freya Sargent, really impressive in the last series. There’s a lot to be excited about.”

Asked if another series win is realistic, Hunter replied: “After a series win it is definitely possible, if we execute our plans well.”
