Ipswich 0-2 Liverpool: How Arne Slot’s Liverpool machine got going

Salah scored one goal and provided one assist in his first competitive match under Slot.

The 32-year-old played a lively game with a total of four shots, three of which were on target.

Salah is now the all-time leader in goals (9) and goal involvements (14 – also 5 assists) on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

It was only four months ago that Salah became embroiled in a public spat with Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at West Ham.

“He is in perfect health, a real top athlete,” said former England player Joe Cole on TNT Sports.

“He had a different period as a defender than Klopp, but I think he will definitely be a goalscorer.”

Salah looked fresh, sharp and happy during pre-season training.

But time is running out and the contract of the player who scored 18 Premier League goals in the 2023-24 season expires next summer.

“He can still play for many years,” added Slot, who did not want to go into details about Salah’s future.

Salah is one of three key players who could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in just five months. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are the other two players whose contracts expire next summer.
