Iowa wrestling earns commitment from 2025 candidate Brody Sampson

Iowa wrestling made its fifth commitment in the 2025 recruiting class on Tuesday night, with an Iowa native pledging to the Hawkeyes.

Ballard’s Brody Sampson has chosen Iowa City as the place to continue his wrestling career. A three-time state medalist in high school to date, Sampson placed third in the 190-pound division in 2024, placed second as a sophomore and fifth as a freshman.

“I have decided to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Iowa,” Sampson said in an Instagram post. “Thank you to all the coaches and people who have supported me over the years, without you this wouldn’t be possible.”

Sampson recently competed in the Junior National Duals for Team Iowa, which placed sixth in freestyle and seventh in Greco-Roman. Sampson went 3-1 in Greco-Roman action and 4-1 in 190-pound freestyle at the Iowa State Freestyle Championships to qualify for Fargo.

Sampson will weigh 197 pounds right out of high school, bolstering depth for the Hawkeyes who looked slim at one point.

With Zach Glazier returning the only 197-pounder on the roster, the Hawkeyes added the Miller twins Jarrel and Ty to their roster last week. Jarrel expects a weight of 197 pounds, while Tyrel expects a weight of 184 pounds. Both were in MatScouts’ top 100 prospects for 2025. The twins, along with Sampson, provide some depth to the program.

That trio complemented top recruit Leo DeLuca, who is in the top 10 of MatScouts’ 2025 at-large board. Leister Bowling IV, a Greco-Roman wrestler from Colorado, was one of Iowa’s first 2025 commits along with DeLuca.
