Indonesian karatekas take overall title AUG 2024

Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) – The Indonesian contingent dominated karate at the 2024 ASEAN University Games (AUG), held in Surabaya and Malang, East Java from June 25 to July 6, 2024.

They won the overall championship with 10 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 6 bronze medals.

Indonesian karate team manager Nelson Noak expressed his gratitude for the team’s performance in a statement on Sunday.

“We are grateful to have won the overall championship at AUG 2024. This is possible thanks to the efforts of the Chairman of the Indonesian Karate-do Federation (Forki) Hadi Tjahjanto, who provided a high-level training for karate,” he said.

The last gold medal went to Indonesia in the women’s kumite event, beating Thailand 9-5.

Thailand is in second place in the karate medal count with four gold medals, eight silver medals and one bronze medal. Meanwhile, third place is secured by Malaysia with three gold medals, three silver medals and eight bronze medals.

Noak explained that for the biennial multi-sport event, Forki sent its best athletes, who had participated in a two-week training camp.

Ceyco Georgia Zefanya, an Indonesian karate athlete, expressed her pride as she took home a gold medal for Indonesia at the AUG 2024

“We are determined to perform at our best. We motivated each other to give Indonesia a perfect ending at AUG 2024,” she said.
