India’s star boxer Nikhat Zareen joins Telangana police as DSP

World boxing champion and Olympic athlete Nikhat Zareen has joined the Telangana Police as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Police).

She officially assumed her new role by submitting her joining report to the DGP of Telangana Police on Wednesday.

Telangana DGP, IPS Jitender, welcomed Zareen, 28, on his official X account. He said, “We proudly welcome two-time world boxing champion and Olympic athlete, @nikhat_zareen, as she assumes her new role as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Special Police). She hails from Nizamabad and submitted her joining report to me today. Her remarkable achievements are an inspiration to Telangana and we look forward to her continued service to the state.”

Zareen’s new position follows her recent participation in the Paris Olympics. She competed in the women’s 50kg category and lost in the pre-quarterfinals to China’s Wu Yu. Zareen, who competed as an unseeded boxer, admitted that it was the toughest loss she has ever suffered.

Reflecting on her Olympic experience, Zareen expressed her disappointment on Instagram. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to pursue my dream, but fate had other plans. It is devastating not to achieve it here in Paris. I wish I could turn back time and put in more effort for a different outcome, but that remains a wish,” she wrote.

Despite the setback, Zareen remains determined. She promised her supporters, “I promise this is not the end. I am going home to recover and clear my head. This dream is still alive and I will continue to pursue it with renewed passion. This is not goodbye, but a promise to come back, fight harder and make you all proud. Thank you for supporting me. The journey continues.”(With ANI inputs)
