Indian men’s hockey team arrives in Paris for Olympic showdown

The Indian men’s hockey team has been the most successful at the Olympics, winning 12 medals (8 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze).

The Indian men’s hockey team reached Paris on Saturday to participate in the upcoming Olympics. Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya shared a video on social media, celebrating the Indian team’s touchdown at the Paris airport.

The team goes to the Olympic Village.

Expectations for medals

At the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team ended a 41-year medal drought by winning a bronze medal. This year, expectations are even higher. After their success at the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, the team will be looking to emulate their feat and possibly upgrade the colour of their medal at the Paris Olympics.

Concerns over poor form in FIH competition

Despite high expectations, the Indian men’s hockey team is facing concerns due to their poor form in the FIH Pro League. The team had a disappointing European leg, losing many points and dropping to seventh in the world rankings, just two points behind Argentina.

India have lost five of their last eight league games in the past two months, with both of their victories coming by razor-thin margins, raising questions about their readiness for the Olympics.
