In this episode of MTV Cribs… Ethan Ewing

After getting repeatedly trounced in every opening round of the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp series in Sydney, I was just starting to come to terms with the fact that I probably wasn’t going to be the next Slater —whose pensive black-and-white K11Y photo stared questioningly at my bedframe.

I resolutely broadened my goals to simply “be the best surfer in the world named Ethan”. A lesser distinction I could swallow. Maybe I would be #1 on SEO if you typed “ethan surfer” into a search engine. Hopefully my last name could one day have some redundancy, like a “Mick” or “Steph” – you know who I’m talking about.

That would be sweet enough, I thought.

So you can imagine my terror when I discovered footage of 13-year-old Ethan Ewing on Racetracks . AI-like hands hanging low beneath broad shoulders, hips thrusting forward, that immaculate diff engaged as he pinched, retracted and decimated every protruding lip without missing a beat with a flair unlike any other youngster in our cohort.

Fuuuuuuuuck.

This latest Creatures ‘Packed’ piece is the first of a few profiling their starry roster. This one shows Eth at home, in his heart and soul North Straddie pad decked out with driftwood, rusted boat accessories + dog hair from his Staffordshire terrier. It’s ‘roots’ as Goggans would say (not David, Ashy). His relaxed demeanour, a byproduct of being taken out of the context of horns, jerseys + sponsored ladders.

It’s probably the most candid and character-revealing piece we’ve ever seen from him, revealing his affinity for French culture + women, window seats, upgrades, Tool, Metallica and Tame Impala, and his distaste for airplane food, to name a few.
