New Delhi: While India’s opening woes continued in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa, they still managed to post a respectable total of 176 in 20 overs in Barbados. Virat Kohli emerged as the side’s top scorer with 76 runs, while wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant failed to score as he departed for a golden duck off just two deliveries.

As soon as Pant was dismissed, fans were all over the social media platforms criticizing his participation while lamenting Sanju Samson’s exclusion from the event. While Pant played all eight matches in the showpiece for the side, Samson was benched for the entire tournament and did not even get a match.

Pant’s performance was average in this big event and he failed to make a mark on his status. Not only Pant, Chennai Super Kings’ star batsman Shivam Dube also failed in the event and failed to deliver an impressive knock. However, Dube played a fine cameo in the top clash but Pant failed miserably in the most crucial clash.

While one social media user commented that in search of gold we lost the diamond, another wrote that the only fraud Pant has committed in his career is destroying Samson’s career.

Here are some responses

Meanwhile, India did well by scoring 176 runs in the first innings after losing three quick wickets of Rohit, Pant and Suryakumar. While Kohli was coming back to form, Axar Patel also made a fine cameo.
