Impairment is a possible factor in a crash that left two dead

KANSAS CITY — Two people were killed in a crash shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday in Kansas City.

According to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a Dodge Hornet was traveling south on Jackson Avenue in Kansas City at a very high rate of speed. The driver of the Dodge failed to stop at the red traffic signal on Truman Road.

The Dodge struck the left side of an eastbound Ford Fusion that was running a green light. The impact forced the Ford south, where it struck a wooden utility pole. The Dodge continued southeast after the crash and struck the west wall of the business, Cash America Pawn at 4205 Truman Road.

The front passenger of the Dodge and the driver of the Ford were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two additional passengers of the Dodge were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. According to Gonzalez, the driver of the Dodge is being investigated for impairment
