‘I’m the same weight…:’ Sunita Williams shares health update after months stuck in space

The latest photo, shared by NASA on Instagram, shows Sunita staring out the circular window of the SpaceX Dragon Crew.

Indian-origin NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and her colleague Wilmore Butch have spent a challenging few months aboard the SpaceX Dragon Crew spacecraft. Recently, a photo of Sunita caused widespread concern among her admirers and NASA observers alike. In that image, her visibly thin appearance and apparent weight loss alarmed many. However, a recently released photo has brought relief and joy to her supporters.

The latest photo, shared by NASA on Instagram, shows Sunita staring out the circular window of the SpaceX Dragon Crew. Wearing her Expedition 72 jersey, she looks radiant as the light of Earth illuminates her face. NASA described the moment in the caption: “NASA astronaut Suni Williams looks out the circular window of the SpaceX Dragon Crew spacecraft in her Expedition 72 jersey. When she looks at the earth, her face glows from the light coming from the earth.”

This uplifting image shows Sunita in good health, while her side profile radiates strength and vitality. The photo has sparked an enthusiastic response, with more than 21,000 likes and countless comments. Fans expressed their admiration and well wishes, with one user asking about her return to Earth and another wishing her a safe journey home.

Previously, an earlier photo of Sunita had raised alarms as her hollow cheeks and frail appearance suggested significant health problems. Rumors of weight loss led to questions about conditions aboard the spacecraft. Responding to the speculation, Sunita clarified, “I think my body has changed a little bit, but I weigh the same,” Williams said, dispelling weight loss rumors. “There’s a lot of changes going on here… It’s funny, I think there’s rumors going around that I’m losing weight and stuff… No, I’m actually right about the same amount of… spring junk dampener that We weigh ourselves and I am the same weight as when I arrived here.”

The contrast between the two images highlights Sunita’s resilience throughout this extended mission and offers hope and reassurance to all who follow her journey.
