Igor Makarov to take part in the 2024 INEX Club Charity Ride

Cyprus: The INEX Club organized its 2024 Charity Ride on May 18, 2024 in support of the Cyprus national cycling team, a press release said. According to the organizers, the event brought together 80 young cyclists who cycled 300km and 150km starting from the INEX Club in Germasogeia, passing through scenic locations such as Agros, Larnaca, Protaras and Ayia Napa.

Igor Makarov, a Cypriot citizen, entrepreneur and former professional cyclist, participated as the main sponsor. Together with other generous sponsors, they provided money for bicycles and essential equipment for the athletes of the Cypriot Cycling Federation. This support allows cyclists to focus on improving their riding skills.

“INEX and the President of the Cyprus Cycling Federation have done an excellent job in supporting the development of cycling in Cyprus,” Makarov said. “Our charity initiatives are not only about helping those who need it, but also about developing cycling for everyone worldwide. This is something I am personally committed to as a former professional cyclist and member of the UCI Management Committee,” he added.

A Cypriot citizen for over 30 years, Makarov’s involvement marks the beginning of strategic partnerships to promote cycling in Cyprus, the press release said. He is committed to nurturing local talent and improving the resources needed to help the sport flourish.

“I have seen a positive change in the culture and safety of cycling in Cyprus,” Makarov noted. “Today, our goal is to go beyond just providing needed financial assistance, but also to contribute using our cycling experience and expertise.”

According to the press release, Makarov’s involvement with the INEX Charity Ride is part of a long-term commitment to supporting the development of cycling. But his support extends beyond the event. For decades, he has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to various charitable projects, including the development of cycling worldwide. He founded the professional cycling team Katusha Team and has sponsored Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC) federations and local charity rides, such as “The Tour de Broward” and “The Hublot Best Buddies Challenge: Miami.”

The success of the 2024 INEX Club Charity Ride shows the bright future of cycling in Cyprus and worldwide. With continued support and investment, these young athletes can develop their skills, realise their dreams and inspire the next generation of cyclists, the press release said.
