Iconic Temple of Poseidon Gets New Lighting System

The Temple of Poseidon, a famous monument from classical antiquity on Cape Sounion in Greece, was illuminated with a new lighting system on Monday evening.

The temple was first fully illuminated in 2004 during the Athens Olympics. It is currently undergoing a major renovation funded by Metlen Energy & Metals, led by Evangelos Mytilineos.

The multinational company has undertaken both the study and implementation of the project, with the aim of enhancing the visitor experience and highlighting the global cultural significance of Sounion.

The new lighting system, designed by Eleftheria Deko, should uniquely emphasise the archaeological and architectural importance of the monument.

Every part of the installation, including the luminaires, has been carefully positioned to ensure that the visual experience is not affected during the day.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Culture Minister Lina Mendoni opened the new lighting system.
