‘I don’t really get it’ – Max Verstappen complains about ‘really bad’ qualifying in Monza as Horner admits ‘something clearly isn’t working’

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, team boss Christian Horner seemed particularly baffled by the sudden changes between Q2 and Q3, saying: “We just don’t understand it.”

“I think there is something that is clearly not working on the car,” he continued. “We are trying to unravel and understand that. First of all you have to understand the problem, then understand how to address it and then implement it. There will be a technical solution for a technical problem.

“Q2, it didn’t look too bad. It still had the handling that Max was talking about, but in Q3 there’s something I missed: the others can all improve on new tyres, but we were miles away.

“We need to tackle it quickly. We see that the McLarens have made a big step in the last few races and we are now also behind Ferrari and Mercedes, so there is still a lot to do.”
