A former Hollywood actor who was jailed for assaulting his ex-girlfriend is wanted by police for breaching his license conditions.

Heavily tattooed Jason Hoganson, 53, is said to be ‘actively evading arrest’ as he is wanted by Northumbria Police to be recalled to prison.

Hoganson was pictured on September 10 giving a thumbs up as he left Durham prison, where he had served a three-week sentence for assaulting his ex.

A day later he was back in police custody after being arrested in Newcastle’s West End on suspicion of assault and two counts of breaching a restraining order.

Hoganson, who played a leading role in the 1987 Hollywood film Empire State, is now at the center of a wanted appeal.

Northumbria Police said: ‘It is believed that Hoganson is actively evading arrest and could be anywhere in our force area or County Durham.

“Anyone who sees Hoganson should not approach him but contact us immediately. Please note that harboring a wanted person is a criminal offense and those involved may be prosecuted.”

A former film star has been locked up after he was caught with two knives in his backpack on a busy Newcastle street. Jason Hoganson played a Geordie in the 1988 film Empire State, but since then his life has spiraled out of control. The former actor has more than 95 convictions to his name after turning to a life of crime after drink, drugs and mental health problems took their toll. After serving most of his 18-month sentence on remand, Hoganson was automatically released halfway through.

His release came on the same day that 1,750 prisoners were released early as part of an emergency government effort to reduce prison overcrowding.

His brother Michael confirmed at the time that the release date was known well in advance and that he was not released earlier.

After being back in custody and brought to court, Hoganson denied the assault and one of the charges of breaching a restraining order, but admitted the other.

He was due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on October 30 for trial.

Northumbria Police have not revealed how Hoganson was ultimately released on licence.

Subway has asked the Ministry of Justice for clarification.
