Howard Jones obituary – CA (1923-2018)

Jones, Howard Howard passed away peacefully at home. Born in Osage City, Kansas, he joined the Navy in 1941, where he served as a flight navigator and instructor. He served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserve until 1968. After graduating from KU, he married his beautiful wife Mary Lee. They honeymooned in Boulder, Colorado, where Howard received his master’s degree in education from CU. Howard taught social studies in Kansas, then the family of a son and two daughters moved to sunny California, where they were blessed with the arrival of another son and daughter. Howard continued to teach and later became an administrator for the Anaheim Union High School District. He enjoyed many activities throughout his life, including fishing, traveling, bowling and especially golf. A loyal Angels fan, he enjoyed watching all sports, both collegiate and professional. He loved music and sang for many years in the barbershop with the Orange Empire Chorus. Howard’s greatest passion was his family. He will be greatly missed, but he leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to and endures in all who were fortunate enough to know him. He is preceded in death by his sons, Lawrence and Michael. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee, his sister Rose Marie, daughters, Janet Chapluk (Greg), Debbie Stikeleather (Jim) and Mary Ann Jones, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Hilgenfeld Mortuary, Anaheim, CA. Funeral Mass Friday, February 2, 2018 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Claret in Anaheim, CA, followed by interment at Anaheim Cemetery, Anaheim, CA.
