How Transformers Connects to an R-Rated ’90s Classic

The 80s were the decade of power ballads in action movies. Danger Zone,” by Top gun“You’re the best around”, from The karate childand of course the crème de la crème, Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” from Rocky III.

These uplifting songs were often played during a montage of the main character training for the big battle or other event that formed the climax of the film.

Stan Bush, a struggling artist signed to a record label that specialized in movie soundtracks, tried to throw his hat into the power ballad ring with “The Touch.”

Bush originally wrote “The Touch” for Sylvester Stallone’s 1986 film Cobrabut the filmmakers rejected the song for some reason. “The Touch” would continue to pop up as a bad penny, however – first in Transformers: The Movie and later in Paul Thomas Anderson’s second film, Boogie nights.
