How to get there, buy tickets and what to expect

This weekend, Ventura will become home to the X Games for the second year, attracting some of the biggest names in skateboarding, BMX and Moto X.

The competition is expected to bring tens of thousands of people to the coastal Ventura County Fairgrounds from Friday through Sunday. Whether you’re going there, watching from afar or looking for ways to celebrate for free, here’s what you need to know.

What to expect

The three-day competition runs from 10am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday and from 9am to 4.30pm on Sunday.

Events include park, street, vert and best trick competitions for skateboarding; park, street and dirt for BMX; and best trick, quarter pipe high air and best whip Moto X.

How do you get there?

There will be no parking at the fairgrounds. But free shuttles take people from places in Ventura and Oxnard to the X Games.

Take a free shuttle:

The shuttles are expected to run from 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM on Friday, 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM on Saturday and from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sunday at Park & ​​Ride from locations in Ventura and Oxnard.

  • De Anza Middle School, 2060 Cameron St., Ventura.
  • Pacific View Shopping Center, 3350 Telegraph Road, Ventura.
  • Ventura County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.
  • Oxnard High School, 3400 W. Gonzales Road, Oxnard.

Park at San Buenaventura State Beach, 901 San Pedro St. in Ventura, for $10 and ride for free. But the gates close at 11pm at the state beach parking lot.

Take the train:

  • Amtrak Pacific Surfliner has a stop just steps from the fairgrounds. X Games passengers can also get a 15% discount. More information: amtrak.com/pacific-surfliner-x-games.
  • The Metrolink shuttle service will take people to the exhibition hall on Saturday and Sunday. Day passes on Saturday and Sunday cost $10. Children 17 and younger can ride free on Saturday and Sunday with a paying adult.

Take the bus:

The Ventura County Transportation Commission will expand its bus routes and anyone 18 and under will ride for free. More information is available at goventura.org/xgames.

  • Routes 101 and 126 will be extended to Thompson Boulevard and Figueroa Street in Ventura. The Coastal Express route stops at Thompson and Figueroa instead of Santa Clara and Oak streets.
  • Route 101, which normally runs Monday through Saturday, will be extended to Sunday for the X Games.

How to buy tickets for the X Games

Get information or buy tickets online at xgames.com/events/x-games-ventura-2024/tickets. General admission tickets start at $61. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Tickets can also be purchased at the fairgrounds. But same-day tickets are expected to sell out quickly.

What is the music setup?

Hip-hop artist Wiz Khalifa and electronic performer Kaskade will headline the lineup. Additional artists and a schedule are available at xgames.com/events/x-games-ventura-2024/music.

What can you do for free?

Skate and create: A skateboard and art jam for kids starts Thursday at 4 p.m. Kids ages 5 to 10 can skate in a mini park and make their own T-shirts and skateboard decks on California Street, just below Main Street. Organizers say you should bring your own skating gear or borrow some there.

Join a skate jam: Bring your own board to an all-ages skate jam on Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on California Street near Main Street in downtown Ventura.

Watch a light show: A series of drone shows are planned this week. On Wednesdays, watch the show from the lawn at the Ventura Harbor from about 9 p.m

There are two shows scheduled for Thursday evening, starting at 8:45 PM and 10 PM. The best place to look is downtown Ventura, near the intersection of California and Main Street.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at the fairgrounds at 8:45 p.m.

How to stream the X Games
