Online video games like NBA 2K25 run on servers, making them vulnerable to complex bugs and hiccups that occur for a variety of reasons. Here’s what you can do to find out why NBA 2K25 crashes on your platform.

Since NBA 2K25 Launched on September 6th (September 4th for pre-orders), players have taken to Reddit and Steam to rant about the annoying crashing issues they’ve been encountering. You’re certainly not alone in experiencing crashes at launch or when loading the MyCareer or MyGM modes; the issues are widespread across all platforms and are affecting players differently.

It goes without saying that 2K could have done a better job optimizing the latest NBA version, especially the PC version. A price tag of $70 is not cheap and when you pay that much money for a game, you would expect it to at least launch without any issues.

Well, over time it should get better as 2K fixes the current issues and optimizes the servers. But until then, you can try the following solutions to possibly fix the crashes.

1) Disable game overlays

If you use overlays (Discord, NVIDIA, AMD, etc.) for quick actions, we recommend disabling them as they are one of the most common reasons for crashes in games. This may fix the crashing issues you have experienced in NBA 2K25.

2) Check for outdated drivers

Whether you’re on a console or PC, make sure your platform’s software is up to date. If you’re on a PC, make sure your video drivers are updated to the latest versions.

3) Solving Internet problems

We don’t need to reiterate how notoriously slow internet connections can be. Check that your network isn’t acting up when you try to play NBA 2K25. Reboot your router and modem and connect to a direct internet connection instead of wireless if possible. You can also try changing the DNS your network uses to a more gaming-friendly one. Finally, make sure you are not connected to a VPN.

4) Disable Windows Defender

If you are using Windows Defender, disable the firewall and see if you can start Windows Defender. NBA 2K25 without any problems. Try the same if you are using a third party antivirus. If this fixes the crashes, you now know who the culprit is. Check if the game is not blocked by the antivirus you are using. You can check your firewall settings to see if the .exe file is allowed to pass through the barrier. If not, adding it to the green list should fix the crashes.

If none of the above solutions work (possibly not for many players, as there are internal factors involved), we recommend submitting a ticket to 2K and waiting for an appropriate resolution.
