How Newcastle United could get a £75m PSR boost this summer

Newcastle United are set to generate a £75m boost to their profit and sustainability (PSR) figures if they sell midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer, according to reports.

Guimaraes has been the subject of heavy transfer speculation this summer, with a recent report from The Athletic claiming that Manchester City ‘believe’ the Brazilian is keen to leave.

The same report also acknowledged that it could be ‘difficult’ for the two clubs to reach an agreement, but Man City appear determined to reach a deal.

Guimaraes has been a hugely popular player at St James’ Park since arriving from Lyon in January 2022, scoring 17 goals and providing 16 assists in 107 games in all competitions, helping the club reach the EFL Cup final in 2023 and finish fourth in the Premier League in 2022/23.

Can the sale of Guimaraes secure Newcastle United’s PSR future?

Newcastle may have no choice but to sell Guimaraes if Man City make a substantial offer, given the club’s PSR position.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are demanding £100million for the 26-cap Brazil international, which is the same amount as his recently expired transfer fee.

According to Football Insider, if Newcastle secure this transfer, it would generate a profit of £75m, which would secure their position at PSR for the next two years.

Newcastle have reportedly narrowly avoided a similar points drop to Everton and Nottingham Forest, as the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson have ensured they are in compliance. However, there is still work to be done in future transfer windows.
