Hong Kong fencer Cheung Ka-long reveals secret of success in epic Olympic gold medal battle

Hong Kong screen legend Cheung Ka-long has revealed how he stayed focused during the final moments of his gold medal fight at the Paris Olympic Gamesdespite feeling enormous pressure beforehand and “not quite himself” on the day itself.

Gold medalist Cheung offered his insights as he shared his experiences with students and four other Olympians and Paralympians from Baptist University on Tuesday.

The foil fencer has his second olympic gold by beating Italian Filippo Macchi in a nerve-wracking 15-14 victory in Paris. He won his first gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Games.

“I had few feelings. I always focused on my next move and avoided emotional swings,” Cheung said, referring to the final moments of his match.

“My coach must have been angry with me because I fell behind (Macchi) and finished level several times,” he joked.
